Cookie Notice

Which cookies and local storage arkid.org uses, what for and for how long.

Updated 2026-10-24This is a translation. The German version is legally binding.

1. In short

ArkID uses only cookies and local storage that are technically necessary for the service you expressly want to use: for sign-in, to protect against misuse and to remember your settings. We set no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies and embed no third-party content that sets cookies.

2. Legal basis

Storing and reading this information on your device needs no consent, because it is strictly necessary to provide the service you asked for (Section 25(2) No. 2 TDDDG). We process the related data to perform the contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and to keep the service secure (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

3. Cookies on arkid.org

NamePurposeDuration
arkid_sessionKeeps you signed in. Holds only a random session key; the sign-in data stays on our server. Cannot be read by scripts.Until you sign out or the sign-in session ends

orcid_oauth_stateProtects the link to ORCID against forgery.10 minutes
cookie_consentStores your choice in the cookie notice so that it does not appear again.12 months

Older sign-in cookies from earlier versions (arkid_access, arkid_access_expires, arkid_refresh) are deleted on your next visit.

4. Cookies of the sign-in service

If you open a page of our sign-in service at arkid.org/arkid/auth, for example to reset your password, it sets session cookies (e.g. AUTH_SESSION_ID, KC_AUTH_SESSION_HASH, KC_RESTART, KEYCLOAK_IDENTITY, KEYCLOAK_SESSION). They serve only the sign-in process and are deleted at the latest when the sign-in session ends.

5. Local storage

NamePurposeDuration
themeRemembers light or dark mode.Until you delete it in your browser
arkid-sidebar-collapsedRemembers whether the side menu is collapsed.Until you delete it in your browser

6. Other providers' pages

If you link your ORCID iD, we send you to orcid.org, where ORCID's cookie and privacy notices apply. Other ResearchArk services set their own cookies on their own websites.

7. Managing and deleting cookies

You can change your choice in the cookie notice at any time through “Cookie Settings” in the footer; there is nothing optional to agree to. You can delete cookies and local storage in your browser at any time. If you delete the sign-in cookie, you are signed out.

How we handle your data is explained in the Privacy Notice.
